Monroe Street Midway
Overview
In early 2020, Bedrock engaged Groundswell Design Group to create a temporary public space for Detroiters on a future development site in downtown Detroit’s Central Business District. The 2.5-acre site, formerly a parking lot, has been transformed into a vibrant seasonal destination.
In the summer, the park offers roller skating, basketball, installations by local artists, food vendors, mini golf, and flexible seating areas. Recent additions include lawn and stage areas hosting music and dance performances by local Detroit artists. During the winter, the space has evolved to include a drive-in movie theater during COVID restrictions, and more recently, winter ice bumper cars, a snow tube sledding hill, a pop-up arcade, a “puck putt” mini golf conversion, and festive seasonal programming.
